First started playing with Teignbridge Silver Band in the 1970's. This was later renamed the Newton Abbot (Teignbridge) Band which achieved some contest successes. Notably, under the baton of Kevin Carroll we won the regional qualifier of the national Pontins contest.
Kevin had played euphonium for the CWS (Manchester) band in the1960's and it was him that realised my best instrument was not the cornet.
A few years later the band found itself short of players so I stopped for a few years. The band was resurrected as Teignbridge Brass by 3 local music teachers and I rejoined. This was later re-branded as Spectrum Music a concert wind band where I still play today.
I joined the Exeter band around 3 years ago when I was asked by the then MD Gareth Davies to help out for one concert. To play in a brass band again after so many years was a great experience and I was hooked.
